One year of marriage down and some (BIG) news!

First, I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who read all of our wedding and honeymoon posts as we counted down to our first anniversary.  I really enjoyed reading all of your comments and it was fun remembering all of the details of our big day.

Right now, Bill and I are currently in Charleston, SC, celebrating our first-ever wedding anniversary. Once we get back from the trip, I'm excited to get back to blogging about the present day and promise to be around a lot more often!

Our first year of marriage went by in a flash.  It feels like just yesterday that we were saying our vows in front of our friends and family.  Right after we got married, everyone kept asking us if it felt different to be married and after a year, I can honestly say that it does.  It just feels very secure and right to know that we love each other so much that we vowed to live the rest of our lives together. Each little gesture or moment feels more meaningful than it did before, which isn't to say things didn't feel meaningful before.  It just feels different.  Hard to describe, I guess, but it's a nice, warm, and safe feeling.

We've had a great first year of marriage.  It started off, of course, with our honeymoon.  A few weeks after we returned, we moved out of the house that we shared with a roommate to a nice apartment.  We later had some problems in that unit, so we moved to another apartment in the same building.  In December, we got our first shared car.

New car!
We took trips to San Diego, Ohio, New York, and New Jersey.  We went to baseball games, concerts, and comedy shows.  We voted together for the first time, casting votes for what we hoped we be the first female president, and later went to the Women's March. We went to local festivals and the Congressional Baseball Game. We had many a dinner date and even a few lunch dates!

All of the holidays felt extra special this year -- our first married Thanksgiving, first Valentine's as husband and wife, etc.  We celebrated our first birthdays as husband and wife!

While I mentioned that things feel different, nothing in our day-to-day routines is really too different, it's just better. We recently celebrated our 8th dating anniversary.  It's hard to believe we have been together for nearly a decade!  What's most different is that instead of just a couple, we truly feel like family now.

Speaking of family, the biggest thing to happen to us this year (and something that certainly is different) is that in May, we found out that we are expecting a baby in January 2018!! And we found out last week that we'll be having a girl!

I'm so excited for this new journey and to catch you up on everything.  We look forward to welcoming this baby into our life and to continue to grow as a family.  Without getting too mushy, I love Bill more every day and can't wait to see him become a father.

I promise not to turn this into solely a baby blog so please stay with me.

I'll be back next week with a recap of our anniversary trip and an update on the past 4 months. Until then, I wish everyone a very happy long weekend!
