Five on Friday (written on a Saturday)

Saturday, July 7, 2018

This linkup always seems to be one that I'm able to keep up with so hopefully it will help me get back on a regular schedule! Haddie's napping on me right now, but I can just reach my keyboard to type!

ONE

Haddie loves all things fish.  Her Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother entertains her for hours each week, she went crazy for the Finding Nemo stickers decorating her pediatricians office, and her favorite show is Splash & Bubbles (I only let her watch tv on very rare occasions!), so we have been really excited to take her to the aquarium!

Bill took off the day after the 4th of July so that we could make our first trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore.  We planned this trip out far in advance, so I've been counting down the days.

She wore an adorable fish shirt so she looked the part!

It was very crowded, but all-in-all, we had a great time.  Highlights were the sharks and rays swimming in an open-water tank and she laughed out loud at the pretty tropical fish!  My favorites were the dolphins and jelly fish.

After we left, we went to the amazing Barnes and Noble on the harbor and ate a late lunch at PF Changes (lettuce wraps, yum!)

We bought a year-long unlimited membership to the aquarium for me, so Haddie and I will definitely be back!

TWO

So there I was yesterday, minding my own business, washing dishes.  Bill had just left for the store, so I was home alone with the baby and cat.  All of a sudden, my back door handle rattled and jiggled, as if someone was trying to get in.  My heart was pounding as I thought someone was breaking in.  It happened again and then slowly started opening and someone was there!  I ran over, slammed it shut, locked it and then quickly crouched down.  All of a sudden there was an extremely loud bang and I heard someone shout "Ma'am, open the door!" I peeked out the window and there were 3 police officers outside.  I grabbed Pumpkin so he didn't escape and opened the door to a GUN in my face, coming through the door. The officer put it down right away once she saw it was just me in my pajamas holding a cat.  She explained that a criminal "bailed" out of a police car across the street from our house and because our gate was open, they checked out our backyard, and because our back door was unlocked, they thought he had come inside so they were looking for him.  I said "geez, you guys scared the SH*T out of me" and she said "you scared us, too!"  I texted my neighbors so they didn't have similar experiences.  No idea if they found the guy or what he did, but it sure shook me up.

And there they are!

THREE

2 weeks ago, I had a cool opportunity to go to an event for Emily Giffin's new book, All We Ever Wanted. It took place on a rooftop of some fancy apartments.  Had I known it was going to be outside, I would have dressed differently!  There was a DJ and open bar with rose and sauvignon blanc.  There was supposedly food, but I never saw it.  There were about 15 seats for hundreds of people, so I had to stand.  Most people were their with their friends or moms.  I was all alone, so I missed my mom and best friend!  After standing around for an hour, she finally came out and it was worth the wait! A local news anchor was the moderator and Emily came out in a bright red dress.  She spoke briefly and answered a few questions. I enjoyed the chance to hear from her in person.  When she was done, we waited in line to get a picture with her, but before that, I grabbed another glass of wine and got the courage to introduce myself to Van Jones, who was there!  Only in DC, right? I haven't read the book yet, but I've decided I'm going to wait to read it on vacation because I'd rather have a physical book than my Kindle near the lake!

FOUR

My friend Kate recently watched the entire series of ER on Hulu and inspired me to do the same.  I have been watching a lot of tv since having Haddie and needed a new (to me) show to binge.  I've been enjoying it, though sometimes the medical jargon gets repetitive (O negative, bag him, epi!). I'm only on the 5th season.  One of my favorite parts has been seeing all the cameos - so far I've seen six future West Wing stars (Toby, Josh, Donna, Jordan (Leo's girlfriend), Gina (Zoe's secret service agent), and I think one more I'm forgetting).  Mariska Hargitay has a role and she's so much different than Olivia Benson it's crazy.  Nina from Young and the Restless was on one last night.  Lucy Liu was on it and I totally missed her!  Kate pointed her out.  I did watch some of the series when it was on, but I barely remember any of it. I am looking forward to the next 10.5 seasons, lol.

FIVE

I used to laugh in people's faces when they asked me if I was going to make my own baby food.  It was just such a hilarious notion to me -- why would I ever spend the time and energy cooking food when there's perfectly good food right there on the shelf in the grocery store?  I barely made my own food, let alone a baby's!  Well, fast forward 5 months and I am obsessed with the idea of making my own.  I bought a new blender with a glass jar and a stainless steel steamer because I'm paranoid about toxins, a baby food cookbook (and have 2 on hold for me at the library!), mini glass jars and a silicone tray for freezing, and I can't wait to get started! I intend to buy organic food and make a bunch of different varieties and fun recipes once she's been introduced to many foods.  Our pediatrician said there was no need to feed her until 6 months.  She'll turn 6 months on our trip to the lake, so I think we will start feeding her the week after that (so 3 weeks from now!)

Linking up with April and co.

  1. OMG. The police. That's basically my worst nightmare. I've been home a lot during the day lately, and I'm always freaking myself out when someone comes to the door or my husband comes home unexpectedly. I'm right there with you. YIKES. That's so good of you to let your neighbors know!
